TITLE: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS & PROGRAMS EDUCATOR
DATE: August 23, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Community Partnerships & Programs (CPP) Educator works to fulfill Boston Children’s Museum’s urban mission by engaging Boston area families through direct service activities as well as active building of mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses, public housing groups and other non-profits in the Boston community. In addition, the CPP Educator is responsible for training, mentoring, scheduling, and coordinating the work of six BNY Mellon CityACCESS Teen Ambassadors, high school students who apprentice at the Museum year-round.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree
- 2+ years experience in direct work with community groups and/or teaching
- 2+ years experience working and/or supervising high school youth, plus knowledge or development needs and interests of teens
- Knowledge of community based organizations in the Greater Boston area
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Organized and able to plan and execute events
- Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English; preferably one of the most common languages spoken in Boston (Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Vietnamese)
- Ability, desire and comfort working with people of many diverse backgrounds
- Abundance of energy, sense of humor, and flexibility
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
HOURS: Tuesday-Saturday. Working during weekends, evenings, holiday and school vacation weeks may be required.

TITLE: DEVELOPMENT DATA ASSISTANT
DATE: August 31, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Membership, the Development Data Assistant (DDA) is responsible for the accurate and prompt recording of all development information into the Raiser’s Edge database, including gifts, payments, registrations, some memberships and all personal information updates. The DDA prepares reports of all information entered and prepares and mails acknowledgments and fulfillment/follow-up items for all donations/payments. As assigned, the DDA cleans and updates information in the database. Additionally, the DDA works with the entire development team to ensure that all telephone inquiries are promptly addressed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Development Data Assistant should have: a Bachelor’s degree plus one to three years full time work experience in an office or a customer service setting, professional data entry experience, and a keyboarding speed of at least 60 WPM. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required; familiarity and comfort with internet commerce and web 2.0 applications preferred; Solid proficiency with The Raiser’s Edge database is required. The DDA must have a friendly and engaging phone manner and impeccable oral, social, and written communication skills. Attention to detail with files, databases, and constituent information is a must. Discretion with sensitive or confidential financial and personal information is essential. Familiarity with fundraising, non-profits or museums is preferred. The ability to speak additional languages is a plus.
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

TITLE: EXHIBIT INTERPRETER
DATE: July 23, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Exhibit Interpreter (EI) is a staff position within the Education Department. The EI is responsible for leading a variety of programs most often within Museum exhibits. Topics of discussion and engagement for public programs are: environmental and physical science, health & fitness, literacy, cultural education, and the arts. The Exhibit Interpreter reports directly to the Public Program Senior Manager and, together with the Manager, work closely with Educators on implementation of public programs. The EI engages with all visitors in a manner that is positive, proactive and informed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred
- Demonstrated experience in an elementary school or pre-school, after school program, camp, or day care organization required
- On-going education in early childhood or elementary education preferred
- Must demonstrate skill in leading interactive presentations and role-playing in a group setting which is diverse and composed of intergenerational audiences
- Demonstrated experience and interest in working with young children (ages 0-10) and their families
- Experience and interest in working with diverse audiences
- Theatrical or other performance experience a plus
- Fluency in multiple languages a plus, especially Chinese and Spanish
RELEVANT FACTORS:
- To ensure daily efficient operation, punctuality and attendance are required for assigned shifts
- Weekend, school vacation, and holiday hours
- Lots of walking and/or standing, occasional lifting of light loads, physically demanding

TITLE: SENIOR MANAGER, PUBLIC PROGRAM
DATE: July 21, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Boston Children’s Museum has a team of educators who develop and deliver quality educational programming on a variety of topics to all visitors of the Museum. The Public Program Manager is central to the team’s vision for engaging with children and families. The position, under the direction of the Vice President for Education and Family Learning who leads the Education Team, manages carefully the integration of excellence in Museum public programming and excellence in staff delivery within exhibits and public program space. The atmosphere is dynamic, fast paced, collaborative and creative. The Manager models the Museum’s expectation for program and staff that reflect these characteristics of the Museum environment.
The Manager will manage a staff of up to 16 full and part-time Exhibit Interpreters. In addition, the Manager will coordinate the Education Division’s intern, volunteer, co-op and fellow programs. The Manager works regularly with Human Resources, Marketing and Program Development Divisions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA required in early childhood or elementary education, human development or family and adult learning. MA strongly preferred
- Five (5) years plus experience working in an educational, cultural or museum setting with at least three (3) years as a supervisor of education staff, which required training staff
- Experience in public program development and implementation some of which must demonstrate knowledge of both informal and family learning
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Superlative organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bilingual in Boston Public Schools dominant languages, such as Spanish and Chinese preferred
- Computer proficiency in Windows based programs
HOURS: Full time position, schedule will include one weekend day. Holidays are required.

TITLE: SENIOR MANAGER, SCHOOL & GROUP VISITS
DATE: July 21, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The School and Group Visits Manager is a member of the Education Division and reports directly to the Vice President for Education and Family Engagement. The Manager has primary responsibility for the content and logistics of all school and group visits. Quality program and visit experience for all schools and groups coming to the Museum is a key agenda equally for the Education Division and the Museum. The Manager assures that the Museum visits meet the quality expectations through program that reflects public education standards and which is developed with age levels from early childhood through elementary education. The Manager will develop a breadth of program offerings which meet the varying needs and requirements of school and groups during Museum visits. A significant external partner for the Manager will be the Boston Public Schools.
The Manager will manage a position titled Reservationist. The Manager will work with the Museum Marketing department in developing an effective communication and marketing plan. The logistics necessary to all Museum visits will require the Manager to join the team of Museum Visitor Services staff in providing quality visitor experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA required, MA strongly preferred in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education
- Five (5) years plus experience working in an educational setting
- Demonstrated excellence in curriculum development and implementation
- Fluent in Spanish, Chinese or other Boston Public School dominant language preferred
- Superlative written and oral communication skills
- Microsoft Office skills required
HOURS: The position is full time, Monday through Friday. Holidays may be required.

TITLE: SENIOR MANAGER, VISITOR SERVICES

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Museum staff is dedicated to providing a superior level of visitor and member value through its programs, information and resources. The atmosphere is dynamic, fast paced, collaborative and creative. The Senior Manager, Visitor Services assumes a critical leadership role in ensuring that this commitment to excellence is reflected in all areas of the visitor experience.
The Senior Manager oversees Visitor Services staffing, including hiring, training and performance management. Manages daily operations, including monitoring revenue and attendance, oversees VISTA admissions system. Responsible for visitor safety and oversees first aid, evacuation and lost person procedures. Also manages the Visitor Services budget.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five (5) years experience as a senior supervisor or manager in retail /box office management operations, preferably in a Museum environment.

TITLE: TEEN AMBASSADOR
DATE: August 30, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
BNY Mellon CityACCESS Teen Ambassadors are bilingual high school students (grades 11 – 12) who serve as ambassadors between Boston Children’s Museum and their own communities. They apprentice at the museum by staffing exhibits and conducting activities both at the museum and in community settings such as libraries, community centers and festivals. Teen Ambassadors work 10 – 15 hours per week, after school and on the weekends. Through the generosity of the Arthur F. Blanchard trust, BNY Mellon CityACCESS Teen Ambassadors can become eligible for a competitive $5,000 scholarship at the conclusion of their apprenticeship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Boston area high school student, grades 11-12
- Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English; preferably one of the top languages spoken in Boston (Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Vietnamese)
- Desire to work with people of many diverse backgrounds
- Abundance of energy, sense of humor, and flexibility
- Some experience working with children preferred
HOURS: 10-15 hours per week. Shifts include Wednesday (4pm – 6pm) and Friday (4pm– 7pm or 4pm – 9pm) and Saturday and/or Sunday (hours vary, between 9-5pm).

TITLE: VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE
DATE: July 23, 2010
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all Museum visitors. The experience of the visitor is essential to the Museum goal of providing a visit which engages children and their families in positive and meaningful ways. The VSA is most often the first encounter children and their families will have with the Museum, so the role requires an individual who is committed to positive and proactive interactions with others. The VSA staffs areas such as the admissions desk, information desk, and critical exhibit areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Advanced course work or experience in customer service, hospitality, retail operations preferred
- Previous cash handling experience
- Experience in a vibrant, fast paced organization with constant public interaction required
- Excellent public communication skills
- Experience and interest in working with young children (ages 0-10) and their families
- Experience and interest in working with diverse audiences
- Bilingual skills a plus, especially in Chinese or Spanish
RELEVANT FACTORS:
- Weekend, school vacation weeks, holidays required
- Travel from one work station to another required, as is prolonged periods of standing or sitting
- Lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required
