Joshua's Journey brings to life the Scholastic Dear America/My Name is America® book - The Journal of Joshua Loper, A Black Cowboy. The exhibit follows Joshua's adventures as he leaves home at age sixteen to help drive a herd of cattle up the Chisholm Trail. A trail and camp environment provides many hands-on activities, including saddling a horse, cooking in the chuck wagon, and roping cattle. Kids can saddle up a horse, don authentic western wear and take a turn on the bucking bronco. Joshua's Journey: Diary of a Black Cowboy will be on display through February 2008.
The extreme hardships of Native American tribes in Indian Territory during this period are not told in the Joshua’s Journey exhibit. Books and a resource list are available that
acknowledge this important history and highlight the story of tribes today.
