Science at Home

Think you’re not very good at science? Think again! There are plenty of simple experiments you can do at home with your child, using things you may have lying around the house already. Remember, scientists are people who ask lots of questions and make lots of observations, even if they don’t necessarily understand or have explanations for them right away. As you and child experiment together, ask her to predict what she thinks will happen, or to describe what’s happening. Think about different ways to change up your experiments; for example, if the activity calls for milk, what if you use skim vs 1% vs whole milk? Don’t worry so much about the “right” answer, just have fun exploring together. Developing curiosity is the first step to becoming a scientist!
