Boston Children's Museum is close to major highways and easily accessible by public transportation, including the MBTA train, bus and even water shuttle!

Group Bus Notice: Please unload and load your bus on Sleeper Street behind the Museum in the designated spot. You will enter the Museum through the Group Welcome Entrance.

From South Station (MBTA Red Line and Commuter Rail) Exit South Station to the right of the Amtrak Sales window, to the left of the Commuter Rail platforms onto Summer Street Take a right onto Summer Street and walk one block towards the water Take the first left on Dorchester Avenue (the Federal Reserve Building will be on your left) Follow Dorchester Avenue one block and turn right over the Congress Street Bridge. At the stoplight, turn right onto Congress Street and proceed across the bridge. You'll see the Museum ahead on your left, behind the 40-foot milk bottle. It's about a three-block walk in total.

From Courthouse Station (Silver Line Waterfront): Once you have come up from the Silver Line platform, head left to exit Courthouse Station. Upon exiting Courthouse Station, turn left (toward the City of Boston skyline). Walk straight down Seaport Boulevard. You will cross Sleeper Street, and enter the Museum's Children's Wharf Park. Take a left onto the Boston HarborWalk along the Fort Point Channel, and follow it to the Museum entrance.

Boston Children's Museum is easily accessible by both South Station (MBTA Commuter Rail, Red Line, Amtrak and Private Bus Carriers) and Courthouse Station (Silver Line Waterfront).

Special Note: Children 11 and under ride FREE on MBTA lines when accompanied by a paying adult!

From Downtown Crossing: The MBTA #7 bus stops in the Downtown Crossing area at Summer and Otis Streets and at South Station (See walking directions from South Station to the Museum). The bus will indicate that the destination is City Point. The bus runs approximately every 10 minutes during peak hours between 7-9am and 4-6pm and every 20 minutes during the off peak hours.

Express buses run from the North Shore to Boston Children's Museum area. MBTA Bus #448/449 travels from Marblehead, and #459 travels from Salem to Boston Children's Museum. Both stop at the corner of Congress Street and A Street. The Museum is a short walk down Congress.

Travel to Boston Children's Museum can be easy as A – B – Sea! Water transportation can be a fun adventure for kids, and the boats bring you to piers just a short walk from the Museum. You can park closer to home and not have to worry about driving or parking in the city, too! The MBTA has commuter boat service from the South Shore to Boston Additional private water shuttle service also runs from Salem, MA.

MBTA Commuter Boats from Quincy depart on Route 3A at the Fore River Bridge rotary and arrive at Long Wharf/Aquarium, a short walk to and from the Museum.

Upon arriving at Long Wharf, turn left and cut through the Long Wharf Marriott Hotel to Central Wharf, continue straight towards the Rowes Wharf/Boston Harbor Hotel Follow the HarborWalk until you come to the Old Northern Ave pedestrian bridge. Walk across the bridge towards the Federal Courthouse. At the end of the bridge, turn right onto Sleeper Street, pass the Barking Crab restaurant and cross Seaport Boulevard using the crosswalk. Continue straight, now on Sleeper Street, cutting across to the Museum's waterfront entrance.

MBTA Commuter Boats from Hull The MBTA commuter boats from Hull depart on Main Street in Pemberton Point, Hull and arrive at Long Wharf/Aquarium, a short walk from the Museum.

Upon arriving at Long Wharf, turn left and cut through the Long Wharf Marriott Hotel to Central Wharf, continue straight towards the Rowes Wharf/Boston Harbor Hotel Follow the HarborWalk until you come to the Old Northern Ave pedestrian bridge. Walk across the bridge towards the Federal Courthouse. At the end of the bridge, turn right onto Sleeper Street, pass the Barking Crab restaurant and cross Seaport Boulevard using the crosswalk. Continue straight, now on Sleeper Street, cutting across to the Museum's waterfront entrance.

MBTA Commuter Boats from Hingham The MBTA commuter boats from Hingham depart on Route 3A from the Hingham Shipyard (on the Weymouth Line) and arrive at Rowes Wharf/Boston Harbor Hotel, a short walk to and from the Museum.

Upon arriving at Rowes Wharf, you'll see the Old Northern Avenue Bridge on the left Walk across the bridge towards the Federal Courthouse At the end of the bridge, turn right onto Sleeper Street, pass the Barking Crab restaurant and cross Seaport Boulevard using the crosswalk. Continue straight, now on Sleeper Street, cutting across to the Museum's waterfront entrance.

MBTA Inner Harbor Ferry from Charlestown Navy Yard The MBTA Inner Harbor Ferry departs Pier 4 in Charlestown Navy Yard and arrives at Long Wharf/Central Wharf, a short walk from the Museum.

Upon arriving at Central Wharf, turn left towards the Rowes Wharf/Boston Harbor Hotel. Follow the HarborWalk until you come to the Old Northern Ave pedestrian bridge. The Salem Ferry (Seasonal : Memorial Day weekend through Halloween) The Salem Ferry provides service between the Blaney Street Wharf in Salem and Central Wharf in Boston. In Salem, simply follow the trailblazing signs to the free parking lot and Terminal building. Blaney Street is located just outside Salem Center off Derby Street. The boats arrive at Central Wharf, a short walk to and from the Museum.

Upon arriving at Central Wharf, turn left towards the Rowes Wharf/Boston Harbor Hotel. Follow the HarborWalk until you come to the Old Northern Ave pedestrian bridge. DIRECTIONS BY CAR in Massachusettsback to the top

From the North:
Take I-93 South to the "Purchase Street" exit #23. Take a left at the first set of lights onto Seaport Blvd/Evelyn Moakley Bridge. At the second set of lights take a right onto Sleeper Street. The Museum is the building on the right. For parking, at the end of Sleeper Street take a left onto Congress Street. Take the 1st left for the Farnsworth Street Parking Garage or the 3rd left for the Stillings Street Parking Garage. Be sure to bring your ticket to the Museum for validation. To walk to the Museum, go back to Congress Street, turn right, and walk towards the bridge.

From the South:
From I-93 North, take the South Station/ I-90 exit #20. Follow signs towards I-90 East, and once in the tunnel take the first exit to "South Boston". At end of ramp, go straight onto East Service Road At the next intersection take a left onto Seaport Boulevard At the second set of lights take a left onto Sleeper Street The Museum is the building on the right For parking, at the end of Sleeper Street take a left onto Congress Street. Take the 1st left for the Farnsworth Street Parking Garage or the 3rd left for the Stillings Street Parking Garage Be sure to bring your ticket to the Museum for validation. To walk to the Museum, go back to Congress Street, turn right, and walk towards the bridge.

From the East (Logan Airport and Route 1A):
Take I-90 West Exit #25, "South Boston". At end of ramp proceed straight onto B Street At the next set of lights take a left onto Seaport Boulevard At the third set of lights take a left onto Sleeper Street The Museum is the building on the right For parking, at the end of Sleeper Street take a left onto Congress Street. Take the 1st left for the Farnsworth Street Parking Garage or the 3rd left for the Stillings Street Parking Garage Be sure to bring your ticket to the Museum for validation To walk to the Museum, go back to Congress Street, turn right, and walk towards the bridge.

From the West:
Take I-90 East towards Logan Airport. Once in the I-90 tunnel, take Exit 25, "South Boston". At the top of the ramp bear left towards "Seaport Blvd" At the first lights, proceed straight onto East Service Road and follow to the end. At the next set of lights, turn left onto Seaport Blvd. At the second set of lights, take a left onto Sleeper Street The Museum is the building on the right. For parking, at the end of Sleeper Street take a left onto Congress Street Take the 1st left for the Farnsworth Street Parking Garage or the 3rd left for the Stillings Street Parking Garage Be sure to bring your ticket to the Museum for validation To walk to the Museum, go back to Congress Street, turn right, and walk towards the bridge.

FROM THE MUSEUMback to the top

To I-93 North and I-93 South:
Exit left onto Congress Street. Follow Congress Street and the signs for "I-93 North" and "I-93 South" The on-ramp to both I-93 North and I-93 South will be ahead on your right at the intersection of B Street.

To I-90 West and I-90 East:
Exit left onto Congress Street. Follow Congress Street to the intersection of D Street Take a right onto D Street. Take the second right at the overhead sign for I-90 West and East and follow signs for either I-90 West or I-90 East

To I-90 East/Route 1A North/Logan Airport – alternate option:
Exit left onto Congress Street. Take a right onto West Service Road and follow to the end. Take the next left and follow the signs towards I-90 East/Logan Airport.

To Storrow Drive West:
Exit left onto Congress Street. Follow Congress Street toward the signs for "I-93 North". The on-ramp will be on your right at the intersection of B Street. Take Exit 26 to Storrow Drive.

* Please be advised that parking on Sleeper Street—directly behind the Museum—is for residents only. Your car could be subject to tow if you do not have the correct resident permit parking sticker.

The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Museum closes at 3pm on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve.
The Museum opens at noon on New Year’s Day.

NOTE: Children younger than 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Adults unaccompanied by children must leave proper photo identification at the Admissions Desk. Examples: State Driver’s License or Passport.
