In the Messy Sensory Area in PlaySpace, toddlers do the important work of exploring the world and themselves through hands-on activities. The area is perfect for toddlers to explore all kinds of sensory materials from paint to shaving cream, playdough and water. Activities are carefully designed to support toddlers’ curiosity and the development of fundamental skills. We use washable, non-toxic materials so everyone can enjoy the fun of making a mess!
Tips for doing Messy activities at Boston Children's Museum:
- Follow your child’s lead and feel free to visit the area multiple times. It could be your child’s first time exploring paint or cornstarch. and it takes time to develop confidence and be comfortable.
- We have smocks available for both children and grownups. Pack an extra shirt and pants for full-body exploration.
- Talk to our experienced staff. We are available for tips and ideas to try at home.
The area may be closed briefly for cleaning in the middle of the day.
