Since its founding over 100 years ago by science teachers, Boston Children’s Museum has provided unparalleled learning opportunities for its visitors who are in their elementary school years. Whether a student is visiting the Museum with a school classroom to build a model roller coaster, or visits on a weekend with family enjoying a hands-on cultural workshop, the Museum offers regular events and workshops for children 6 and older.
“Boston Children’s Museum has always been a leader in the field of providing learning experiences for very young children and their grownups. Since our founding by elementary school teachers over a century ago, we’ve also been delivering top-notch learning experiences for kids aged 6-12,” said Cora Carey, Manager of School Age Learning. “We offer at least one workshop exclusively for kids 6 and up every weekend of the year; these educator-led experiences span the gamut from robotics to dramatic arts to macrophotography, and everything in between. Not only do the ’big kids‘ relish the opportunity to learn alongside their peers without the little ones around, but their parents often find themselves immersed in building and creating, too.”
The following are upcoming activities for children 6 and older and their caregivers to consider when planning a visit to the Museum:
Sunday June 15, Make your own…Bubble Bath! Museum visitors are invited to learn the basics behind bubble bath making in this workshop. Each visitor will leave with their own signature bubble bath. Visitors will also have a chance to design their own logo and label for the creation!
Sunday June 22, Explore Museum Collections! Boston Children's Museum has been collecting objects from around the world for nearly 100 years. For this workshop, visitors put on white gloves and take a closer look at the Museum's collections. How much can you discover just by looking? Materials used may include natural history specimens or cultural artifacts from countries or cultures around the world.
Sunday July 13, Make your own…lip balm! Visitors are invited to learn the basics behind lip balm making in this workshop. Each visitor will leave with their own signature lip balm. Visitors will also have a chance to design their own logo and label for the creation!
Sunday July 13, Music Studio - Have you ever wanted to record your own song? Stop by the Museum’s recording studio for an introduction into microphones, electronic and acoustic instruments, mixing and more!
