Prioritizing the tactile, material, and social.

In a world where time and attention are perpetually sacrificed to screens from a very early age, occupying an increasingly large part of our conscious experience, Boston Children’s Museum is focused on creating environments that prioritize the physical, material, and social interactions that connect us to the world and each other. The Museum provides the perfect environment for exposing children to experiences that can’t be found in front of a computer, while watching television, or in a school classroom. Unique to the Museum experience is children explore and discover with their parent or caregiver, as well as with other children. The Museum is a shared experience that invites interaction.

An environment that is hands-on and child centered, enabling direct interactions with intriguing objects, exposure to science, art, music, theater, dance and movement, and culture, the Museum challenges children’s imagination, inspires their creative potential, and supports their social-emotional growth. Bridging play and learning in this tangible and social way, the Museum is an alternative to an accelerated, increasingly technological world, where self-directed play and learning is a low priority.

Visit the Museum and see children solve problems they have not encountered before, engage in making and creating, taking risks, and getting excited about learning.
